Porters,
1. Generally people climb peak Lenin
in July-August. Why your tour is so late?
Because it is not so crowded and you can enjoy the mountain without endless
people vomiting nearby. The weather in September is even more stable
than in August that increases our chances. Average temperature is bit lower
(2-3 degrees) but it is not so important. Moreover it's too hot at the base
camp in summer. 2. Why not to start
the program from Moscow as some other companies do?
We think that this edition gives people more flexibility. If you want to start
from Moscow just order a hotel there. We will buy tickets to Bishkek meet you
at the airport and you will join our group in Moscow. 3.
Why not to provide meals during the accent in higher camps? I've heard some
companies offer such a service.
Yes some companies declare this service, we thought about this and decided
that this is not very good idea. Reasons are: In these groups people must
carry their part of food anyway. The only difference that they carry not their
own favorite and familiar food but a part of unknown food (for example - just
5 kilos of noodles!). It is good if you can relax until a cook prepares a tee,
but what to do if you occasionally have an overnight pretty far from a group
and have no stove? In this case you tightly connected with the group,
have no personal flexibility and your safety in case of a problem is lower.
Summary: It is good idea to have personal stove in your tent and full range of
your favorite and familiar food. But as soon as you have everything why not to
use it? Our guides will help of course but we think that declaring of 'full
meals' is not useful. 4. Is it
possible to hire a porter or personal guide?
Yes, it is possible. There is no regular service with fixed prices that is why
you have to negotiate at the base camp. Our guides will assist you. 5.
What equipment and skills are necessary?
Sample list of equipment you can see on the equipment page. Add a gas stove
and a pot. Be prepared for - 20 C temperature with strong wind. You must have
proper tent, clothes, mittens, mask and boots. This accent is not for
beginners. You must have a clear idea of using crampons, cooking utensils and
putting your tent. No special ice or rock climbing skills required. 6.
It is prohibited to have gas cylinders in the luggage during the flights.
Where can I get gas?
You can fill up gas cylinders in the base camp. Also different kinds of empty
cylinders are available. 7. I'm not
sure if climbing permit is included?
Yes, climbing permit is included. Many companies do not include it because
the cost is US$ 105 per person for foreigners but we see no reason to give it
separately. 8. If we climb the peak
earlier can we return to Bishkek earlier?
If all the group is agree to return, we can return back to Osh and Bishkek.
Bazaar in Osh may be interesting place to visit. In Bishkek we can make an
excursion to the famous lake Issyk-Kul with horse riding and lunch in a yurt
(local nomad tent). Of course you can fly from Bishkek earlier. 9.
Is there a doctor at the base camp? What is the base camp? What is the 1st
camp (4200m)
In the base camp there will be a mess tent (nomad Yourt), kitchen,
sauna. Group members will sleep in comfortable two-person camping tents.
Electricity is produced by a small hydroelectric power station. There will be
a doctor in the base camp.
1st camp is a number of tents, mess tent and a kitchen. You can use these
tents or sleep in your own. Having a constant tents in the camp 1 is very
useful when you leave your own tent in a higher camp. 10.
What about safety in the region?
Kyrgizstan (or Kirgizia or Kyrgyzstan) is one of the most stable
countries in Middle Asia. Every year hundreds of climbers go there and no
evidence of any problem with safety (concerning political situation) is
known.
